I’ve done many things with my life so far. I’ve been a radio DJ, journalist, copyeditor, veterinary nurse, even a goat rancher – the one thing that hasn’t changed along the way is that I’ve been a web designer through it all. I started making websites about 12 years ago, as soon as I realized it was possible. And since then, I’ve kept at it through some amazing changes in technology. Websites have certainly come along way since I first started building them.
Maybe it’s my downfall, but I’ve never been one to care about money. I’ve worked for many non-profits, accepting the work load of four people for the pay of an entry-level receptionist, but I did it because I care, and I’ll choose meaningful work over fame and fortune any day. Now, I’m getting my own non-profit off the ground, Buried River Ranch – an organization that aims to educate people about sustainable animal agriculture. Of course, I’m not exactly in a position to pay myself yet, so I’m subsidizing my bleeding heart lifestyle with freelance website and graphic design.
Whenever I manage to find some precious spare time, I play music, bake, do yoga, knit, and have just started learning/falling in love with flamenco dance.
